Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond is dealing with a family tragedy today. Her nephew Caleb is reportedly in critical condition after a car crash on her ranch Wednesday afternoon.
Caleb and Ree’s husband, Ladd were both driving along the property line of the ranch attempting to battle a fire that was encroaching on the Drummond land. The pair were each driving a Himmat Fire Truck on County Road N3660.
According to Oklahoma State Patrol, Caleb was driving southbound and Ladd was headed northbound. Low visibility caused by dust and gravel caused the two vehicles to collide “head on”
Neither was wearing their seatbelts however, Caleb was the one who was worse off. Authorities say Ree’s nephew was ejected from his car and flew 70 feet. The Pioneer Woman star’s nephew had to be taken to the hospital after the accident. However, Ladd’s injuries were apparently mild enough that he refused treatment at the scene.
Caleb was taken to the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, where he was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg, and also serious internal injuries, the OHP report said.
“Pioneer Woman” Star Waiting For Good News
While Ree is best known for her cooking and books, the reality television star has no doubt put that on the back burner. It’s not known exactly how severe the injuries to Caleb are. It’s also not known if he was conscious when he went to the hospital.
Internal injuries rarely sound like positive news. The state patrol had no information on how fast the cars were moving. However, being ejected 70 feet indicates they were traveling at relatively high speeds.
Fires A Concern
Caleb and Ladd were out on Wednesday doing what they’ve had to do several times over the last few weeks. Oklahoma has seen a surge of wildfires this year.
The latest fire appeared close to Ree’s family farm. Grassfires reportedly scorched more than 200 acres surrounding the Drummond family farm in Osage County on Wednesday.
Caleb is a regular on the Pioneer Woman‘s farm. His social media page is littered with pictures of him working the land and riding horses. However, he hasn’t posted anything on Instagram in several weeks.
Ree hasn’t addressed the accident publicly since it happened Wednesday afternoon. While she’s usually fairly active on her Instagram page, she has not posted in three days.
Most of the news surrounding the Pioneer Woman star has been positive recently. Last fall, she launched another cookbook, and introduced the world to her foster son.
More recently, she announced Jamar signed with the University of Central Oklahoma to play football.
It’s not know when or if Ree and her family might provide an update on Caleb’s status.
