Doug Davidson Done on Y&R

‘Y&R’ Star Doug Davidson Says He’s ‘Done’ With The Show

News, Soap Operas, Young and The Restless

Absent from The Young and the Restless since last fall, it appears Doug Davidson is done with the show. At the very least, he’s quite frustrated with how he’s been treated by those in charge.

A bit of a real life soap opera started on Friday, when a fan of Davidson’s pointed out how long since his character has appeared on Y&R. The actor, who plays Paul Williams on the popular day-time program was shown in a picture claiming he was last seen in Billy’s office. The tweet was appended with the hashtag, #bringbackdougdavidson.

Davidson saw the tweet and first corrected the storyline, pointing out he was actually in Lily’s office. He then said his long layoff hasn’t been explained. He added he’s grown tired of waiting for answers from showrunners.

Soon, fans of the actor started voicing their displeasure. One told Davidson it might be time to “pull up stakes” and move on. That might easier said than done, considering just how long he’s been a staple of Y&R.

While he had done work here and there over the years, he’s been loyal to The Young and the Restless in a way few actors are these days. He first joined the program in 1976 and has stuck with it for over 40 years.

Doug Davidson Is Fed Up

In response to the comment about the actor moving on, he responded in the affirmative. “I’m coming to the same conclusion.”

Another fan clearly didn’t like the direction the Twitter thread was taking. They commented that fans of Y&R aren’t tired of fighting for him to make a return. In response, he issued a rather resigned two words that showed his frustration. “I’m tired.”

Several other fans jumped into the conversation. Some had jokes about where Davidson might have gone.

Others began discussing what his next career move might be. One follower suggested they’d love to see the actor appear in a Hallmark movie. However, he responded that he was likely too old to be doing that kind of work.

Eventually, it appeared that sadness and frustration got the better of Davidson. In one of the final tweets of the thread, he made it clear he wasn’t happy with the way Y&R showrunners were treating him.

“I just want to thank you again for all your support,” he wrote. “But I think I am done. After 43 years I am treated like a day player. No bueno.”

Yet another fan expressed her sadness over the news, and again offered up an alternate career path.

I’m sorry that you are being treated like this,” she wrote. “I quit watching Y&R during the pandemic & after I read some of Eric’s posts. Move on to better things. You deserve it! I prefer hallmark movies”

That follower finished by saying Doug Davidson should keep his fans updated.
