The Moonshiners cast and family are dealing with a recent tragedy. One of the show’s most popular personalities in Lance Waldroup has passed away.
Waldroup was 30-years-old. His cause of death has not been announced. The reality TV star actually passed away on February 25 at his home, but his family finally went public with the news on Thursday.
“We are saddened to hear about the loss of Lance Waldroup,” said a Facebook post by Discovery on the Moonshiners official page. “An adventurous distiller who was featured alongside his father throughout the early seasons of Moonshiners, Lance was always looking to take his flavorful recipes of ‘shine to new heights. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
The younger Waldroup was a mainstay in several early seasons of the show with his father. Lance learned the ancient art of distilling from his dad. In addition to moonshine, he also distilled absinthe and scotch according to Deadline.
While some people believe that anyone who appears on these reality television programs, the Waldroup family is a normal group with bills like everyone else. For that reason, the clan started a GoFundMe in order to raise money for a memorial.
Celebrating The “Moonshiners” Life
One of the sadder aspects of this is that Waldroup is said to have turned his life around. The reality star has had drug and alcohol abuse problems in the past. His family said he’d turned his life around after entering rehab.
Some family members told TMZ he’d also spent a good portion of his life suffering from survivor’s guilt. Waldroup’s sister, Lindsey died when she was just 11 years old. His brother, Lamar died when he was 20.
Lance is survived by his parents, his maternal grandparents, Bobby Cape and Edna Sue Hooper, and his paternal grandparents, William Phillip and Laqueta Joy Hooper Waldroup. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Cliff Baptist Church in Graham County, NC. The family will receive friends starting at 11 a.m. Committal services in the Carver Cemetery will follow the service.
Lance Waldroup’s Memory
While the younger member of the family hasn’t appeared in several seasons of Moonshiners, he’s still remembered as one of the original stars of the show. His death was announced just a few days before a new version of the show is set to air.
A new Moonshiners spinoff docuseries, Moonshiners: Smoke Ring, is premiering Tuesday on Discovery+. It’s a safe bet that the program is going to pay tribute to Waldroup. Beyond the official statement, the family hasn’t had much to say about their loss. However, they may do more talking when the pain isn’t so fresh.
