When Calls The Heart debuted its Season 8 to a very good audience. In fact, the show’s season premiere set some records when it comes to television in general for the year.
Hearties were waiting quite a while for the new season to hit. When it did, they rewarded star Erin Krakow and the rest of the cast with good numbers. The Hallmark Channel show has long been a bit of a secret hit. After the numbers the program posted last Sunday, the secret might officially be out.
According to Deadline, When Calls The Heart did well among its target demographic. Even better for the show is that it had very good numbers among Total Viewers. In fact, The Season 8 premiere averaged three million Total Viewers and 397,000 Women 25-54 in Live+3, making it the most-watched original scripted series on ad-supported cable in the year-to-date.
For those who don’t know exactly how these numbers work, Live+3 means those who watched the show as it aired on Sunday night, and those who watched it recorded or on-demand up to three days after the premiere.
Nielsen reported that Total Viewers were one big aspect of the audience. Women 18+ were also a massive part of When Calls The Heart viewers.
Beating All Comers
The show really did seem to grow who was watching and while there still isn’t a great deal of competition, showed that new Hearties are keeping the show going quite strong. The Season 8 premiere episode also was the number one most-watched entertainment cable program of the week among Women 18+, according to Nielsen. The episode drew a .19 rating in the 18-49 demo, and 2.1 million viewers.
The western-themed romantic soap opera has been one of the most popular programs on the Hallmark Channel since it first debuted. Erin Krakow has had a big hand in keeping the popularity up.
The star actor wins people over by being a charismatic person off-camera as well. Her social media presence is one that is light and friendly. That allows people to feel as though they know the actor. That in turn, makes them want to tune in and see her character in action.
‘When Calls The Heart’ Keeps On Rolling
Inspired by the Janette Oke novel, When Calls The Heart follows Krakow’s Elizabeth Thatcher, a young teacher who comes from a high society background. Thatcher is assigned to teach in a coal country classroom. Once she gets started, she realizes that it’s a life-changing experience. Thatcher is now a widow and single mother and she faces new challenges. She does have the support of her surrogate family. That town family includes mysterious gambler Lucas Bouchard and Mountie Nathan Grant.
When Calls The Heart airs Sunday nights on the Hallmark Channel.
