Kendall Jenner has started a new business for herself. While she was likely hoping to get a positive response from her audience, not everyone’s happy with it. They’ve found a MAJOR problem in the Keeping Up with the Kardashian star’s new biz.
Kendall Jenner announces new project
On social media, Kendall shared a series of photos and short video clips. She writes:
“for almost 4 years i’ve been on a journey to create the best tasting tequila. after dozens of blind taste tests, trips to our distillery, entering into world tasting competitions anonymously and WINNING.”
She adds that she’s eager for everyone to try it when it’s available soon. Her new tequila brand is called 818. She also tagged the Instagram page for the new company. You can find it here on Instagram.
Why is there so much backlash over the new product?
Once Kendall revealed her new project, she got a mixed response from her social media followers. Of course, some of her most loyal fans were excited to hear about the project, and they are proud of her for all of her accomplishments.
But many people are weighing in across all social media platforms. And it seems like they aren’t too happy about the new venture she’s on. Over on Twitter, a conversation about it is blowing up. Lots of Kardashian-Jenner fans have something to say about it.
Most fans are concerned because it looks like Kendall is profiting off of cultural appropriation. You can see what a few Twitter users have to say below.
Something about Kendall Jenner making tequila rubs me the wrong way..like the idea of white celebrities taking from local Mexican artisans and profiting off our traditions and agricultural business yet only visit Cabos and Puerto Vallarta for vacation spots…

Ultimately, it’s too soon to tell how Kendall’s new business will perform. But since so many people are raising awareness about the problems associated with it, it’s possible that the business’ success will be negatively affected. While other celebrities have come out with their own tequila brands over the years, Kendall seems to be getting more backlash than they ever have. This may be due to her massive platform. On Instagram, she has 150 million followers. So, naturally, a lot of people will hear about the tequila and may buy it too.
