Are Lawson Bates & Tiffany Espensen Chaperoned?
Lawson Bates & Tiffany Espensen officially court each other, but are they chaperoned everywhere they go? And, unlike the Duggars is Lawson allowed to hug chest-to-chest? Bringing up Bates fans seem a bit unsure. After all, the Duggar family from Counting On don’t allow that. And chaperoning seems a huge part of their lives. The questions arose when Larson shared a photo of himself with Tiffany on a hike this weekend.
Lawson Bates & Tiffany Espensen became official in early February
When the Bates family shared that Lawson found a girlfriend, fans cheered. After all, he’s been a fan-favorite for a very long time. And, everyone hoped that eventually, he’d find a nice girl. For a long time, people suspected that he and Jana Duggar might have something going. But it all turned out just a rumor. We checked out Tiffany and found out that she originally came from China. 22 now, her parents adopted her at a very young age.
She mentioned that in January. In a post on Instagram, she noted, “I’m constantly counting my blessings daily that the Lord put me with this family + I get the opportunity to live in the greatest nation on Earth!!” Actually, she seems very sweet, fans think. Lawson Bates & Tiffany Espensen obviously share similar religious beliefs and her Instagram reveals she posts a lot about her faith. But fans wonder if the Bates family takes chaperoning and body touching less seriously than the Duggar family.

On Saturday, February 13, Lawson shared a photo that ended up with fans asking about their courtship rules. One fan asked, “I thought you had to be chaperoned?” And another one noted, “Wow no need chaperone no more.” Then someone asked, “I thought only side hugs allowed??”
In the replies, one Bringing Up Bates fan said, “think that’s only duggars not Bates family.” And another fan of Lawson Bates & Tiffany Espensen talked about how the Duggars become less fussy as the kids grow older. They noted, “they let the older kids make their decisions about what boundaries they set for themselves.” However, they conceded that for the younger ones like Justin, maybe strict touching and chaperoning rules still apply.
Fans assumed the couple went out unchaperoned
The photo looked like a selfie, and nobody else seems to be around. So, fans assumed no chaperone went hiking with Lawson and Tiffany. And, as they hugged chest to chest, probably, the Bates family allows them to make their own decisions on boundaries. After all, Lawson Bates turns 29 later this year. The family recognizes courting though. For example, UPtv covered Michaella and Brandon’s courtship. But possibly, they lower the bar for Lawson Bates & Tiffany as he’s already nearly 30.
