Gina Carano Fired From The Mandalorian

Gina Carano Fired From ‘The Mandalorian’ After Social Media Push

When The Mandalorian returns for Season 3, it will be without Gina Carano. The actor, who played Cara Dune for the first two seasons of the Disney Plus series was fired on Wednesday night, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” a Lucasfilm spokesperson said in a statement. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The Mandalorian star came under fire and trended on Twitter after one particular social media post. In it, Carano compared being a Republican today to being Jewish during the Holocaust.

The post was shared on Instagram and taken down not long after. Despite the actor taking the post down, there were plenty of people who screenshotted the entry. Those screenshots led to a ton of backlash against the conservative actor.

While Carano’s post seems to have been the last straw, it’s not the first time the mixed martial artist drew criticism. Last November, the actor mocked mask-wearing during the pandemic. In another social media post, she falsely suggested voter fraud occurred during the 2020 presidential election.

Gina Carano Under Fire

Quite a few of those happy she’s no longer on the show, were the same ones bringing her offensive social media posts to light.

“One day we get a beautiful story about Pedro Pascal and his goodness and support for inclusivity,” one user posted. “And the next we’re reminded that Gina Carano has a lizard brain and should not be trusted around human beings.”

Other users said they were happy to see her go. Some did add that Disney and Lucasfilm didn’t act quick enough.

Those users pointed out the lack of newness of her posts. They added Carano had been transphobic for years. Carano often blocks Twitter users who make fun of her intolerance.

Where Does The Show Go From Here?

While Carano was considered a major part of The Mandalorian, she wasn’t actually in many episodes. Indeed, that likely makes it easier to say goodbye to the actor.

Lucasfilm was also not clear on what exactly led to the departure. Its statement hinted Carano left before Wednesday’s social media campaign. However, it doesn’t appear the company hinted such a move was coming.

The Disney Plus program won’t be kicking off Season 3 at the same part of the year it did its first two seasons. Indeed, the next season won’t arrive until 2022. That should give The Mandalorian plenty of time to replace Carano.
