Regé-Jean Page wants you to know that all the chemistry between himself and his Bridgerton co-star is on screen. Addressing rumors with People this weekend, the actor said there was no truth to the rumors he’s dating Phoebe Dynevor.
In the Netflix original drama that has been so popular it almost certainly already has a Season 2, Page and Dynevor play the leading characters, the Duke of Hastings and his new bride, Daphne Bridgerton.
One reason the show is so popular is because fans believe the two are dating in real life as well. It turns out, that doesn’t appear to be true.
“I think everything you need to know is on camera. That’s why we presented it so beautifully for you,” Page joked. “All the sparks that flew off of the beautiful scripts that we were handed, and so I think that the sparky scripted material are more than enough.”
Dynevor, who was also present during the interview, agreed with Page that the chemistry is on the page. She also laughed at the idea the pair were dating in real life.
‘Bridgerton’ Drama Incredibly Popular
Page and Dynevor’s show premiered on Netflix on Christmas Day and has been a roaring success ever since. The show is based on Julia Quinn’s series of books and was produced by Shonda Rhimes.
The program is a period piece, set in the mid-1800’s centered around the high-society families of that time in Great Britain. Bridgerton is narrated by a gossip columnist known as Lady Whistledown. The great Julie Andrews lends her voice to the character.
Page set many a heart aflutter during the show’s first season as the Duke of Hastings. The Duke enters the show as one of the most eligible bachelors in the country. He’s also someone who swore off marriage and children. Over the court of the season, viewers get a look into his mindset and why he’s made that pledge.
Eventually, a rather scandalous (for the time) event causes the Duke and Phoebe to wed. While the two are clearly smitten with one another, a lack of trust eventually divides them. As the season wound down, they found love yet again. What sort of drama Season 2 of Bridgerton will provide, with that issue settled is something to watch.
Dynevor Has Agency
Having helped shoot down off-screen romance rumors, Dynevor directed her attention at the show itself. She said one of the reasons she wanted to work on Bridgerton is the strength of the women characters.
“I knew that the women were gonna have real agency,” she said. “They were not gonna be, you know, timid women… so that was the thing that really excited me.”
It’s true that Netflix hasn’t confirmed a Bridgerton Season 2. However, reports of a location for filming a second season hints that the deal is done.
