There is seriously bad news for horror fans this week. Mike Flanagan, creator of the Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor sent a tweet Wednesday. Fans of the genre thoroughly enjoyed both horror stories and were looking forward to Season 3. There had been talk in the past of continuing the anthology with more haunted house stories. However, when a fan asked Mike Flanagan whether there will be a Season 3, he responded negatively.

The executive producer tweeted that at the moment, there are no plans for more chapters. Flanagan added, “Never say never, of course,” writing that they are busy right now. Reportedly, his crew is focused on a full slate of other intrepid products for 2021 and beyond. To keep fans hoping, the showrunner said that should things change, they will “absolutely let everyone know!”

One fan responded, writing, “I thought you guys were interviewed in 2018 stating you had plans to do several seasons of haunted home stories. This is disheartening.” Another pointed out how incredible a season inspired by Edgar Allan Poe would be.

About the Netflix series

Shirley Jackson’s classic horror novel of the same name is the inspiration behind The Haunting of Hill House. When it premiered in October 2018 on Netflix it went on to become a hit for the streaming platform. It was two years later that Flanagan released The Haunting of Bly Manor. This horror classic is an adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw. It also took elements from The Romance of Certain Old Clothes and The Jolly Corner.

This second season, while truly complicated to watch, was also a hit with horror fans on Netflix. A number of actors from Hill House also featured in Season 2. These included Kate Siegel, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas and Victoria Pedretti, playing new characters.

There is some good news on Netflix

Fans shouldn’t be too disappointed, however. Following the success of the Haunting anthology, Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy have other plans. Flanagan and Macy were signed to an overall deal with Netflix in 2019. This deal includes a seven-episode series order for a new supernatural series, Midnight Mass.

The new series Midnight Mass will star Kate Siegel, Zach Gilford and Hamish Linklater. The storyline centers around an isolated island community. Following the arrival of a mysterious and charismatic young priest, they experience miraculous events and frightening omens.

According to The Wrap, Mike Flanagan will direct all seven episodes of the new supernatural series. So far, there is no news as to when the new series will drop on Netflix.
