Disney Plus Confirms Price Hike: When & How Much?
Disney Plus (Disney+) confirmed a price hike is in their future. Naturally, subscribers of the streaming service have a few simple questions. When is this price increase happening? And, how much is Disney Plus going to cost moving forward?
When is the price increase happening?
Fortunately, Disney Plus (Disney+) is not just dropping a last minute bomb on subscribers. If you do subscribe to the streaming service, you have a few months to prepare. That being said, a lot of subscribers aren’t going to have to deal with this price hike for a little while. Why? Well, because some subscribers locked into Disney+ on a three year subscription when it was released. And, others? Well, they locked in on a yearly subscription. A subscription which would have renewed in November of 2020.
According to CNN, Disney confirmed the price increase will happen in March of next year. So, currently monthly subscribers have a couple months to either lock into an annual subscription or prepare to pay an increased price.
Naturally, this leaves just one big question. How much is Disney+ hiking their price to?

According to Deadline, this Disney+ price hike isn’t going to break the bank. But, they do plan on raising that monthly cost $1. So, it’ll be $7.99 instead of $6.99. Now, those of you who subscribe to other streaming services know that is still significantly cheaper than other services.
The outlet goes on to explain the higher ups of Disney have explained producing a Disney movie is not a cheap venture. Likewise, Disney is projected to spend just shy of $10 billion on fresh content during a fiscal year. And, that money has to come from somewhere.

Trip Miller, a Disney investor and managing partner at Gullane Capital Partners, tells CNN that streaming services aren’t going to be going away. And, price hikes should be expected.
For the consumer, the cost of doing business with, say, Disney is going up, but in return, the amount of content they will receive is increasing.”
How do subscribers feel about the increase?
Unsurprisingly, there are always subscribers who are not happy with the price increase. But, in the Facebook fan groups, most seem to be understanding. Most recognize how much it costs to produce a Disney movie. And, they welcome the price hike if it means the continued release of fresh content.
