Some of this year’s best television shows have been based on books. This includes Little Fires Everywhere, Normal People and more recently, the thriller The Undoing. The trend is set to continue in 2021 with beautifully written stories being adapted for the small screen.

Netflix announced on Tuesday, December 3 that Firefly Lane will officially premiere on February 3, 2021. Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke will star in the two lead roles. The 10-episode drama series is based on Kristin Hannah’s 2008 New York Times bestseller of the same name. Judging from the teaser trailer and the synopsis, the series will take us on a seriously emotional journey.

Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke as Tully and Kate

Heigl and Chalke play the roles of two polar-opposite best friends, Tully and Kate. The pair meet when they are 14 and despite their differences, remain friends across three decades. This is after they decide to stick by each other’s side following a tragedy. While the trailer looks light and fun, the story itself sounds mysterious and dramatic.

The synopsis tells us that together, the friends experience 30 years of ups and downs. This includes “triumphs and disappointments” and “heartbreak and joy.” Their friendship even survives a love triangle that puts a real strain on their relationship.

One of the friends achieves fabulous wealth and fame, while the other chooses to settle for marriage and motherhood. However, despite this, their bond remains through the decades. However, their friendship ends up facing the ultimate test, a messy love trial that makes for a fabulous binge watch.
