When Boba Fett finally reappears in The Mandalorian this season, there is a growing number of fans who think he won’t don his iconic armor. The most famous bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe made a couple of different appearances in the first episode of Season 2.
We first got a look at the armor we all equate with Boba, though Timothy Olyphant wore it after happening across it at a desert marketplace. The misdirect was intentional. Viewers were clearly supposed to wonder if the real bounty hunter would show his face.
He did indeed, show up, at the end of the episode. This time he was armor free and wandering through the desert. That is of course, if that was Boba Fett at all. Some theories around The Mandalorian believe he might be another clone.
If the character we saw at the end of Season 2’s premiere is Boba Fett, most fans of the series believe he’ll get his armor back somehow. Others believe there’s very little chance he can beat Din Djarin.
Djarin was already ready to kill Cobb Vanth for the armor, mainly because Vanth wasn’t a true Mandalorian. Fett isn’t either. His father stole the armor off a true Mandalorian and used it for various misdeeds throughout the galaxy.
‘The Mandalorian’ Showing Off New Armor?
Reddit user nonoman12 posted the idea the Disney Plus series could bring back what was Fett’s original concept look. Before the bounty hunter ever appeared on the big screen, famed designer Ralph McQuarrie gave the character a much different look.
The original armor looked more like a stormtrooper’s outfit from Hoth. The user believes the show could pay homage by finally adopting the appearance.
Other Reddit users jumped on the bandwagon. They believe Fett is going to let go of his evil past.
In order to do that, he must let go of his former outfit. Din Djarin not being willing to let someone who isn’t a Mandalorian wear it is only going to hasten moving on.
Defies Common Sense?
There is one problem that other users pointed out that makes the theory less than believable. Several commented that is seems unlikely the show would bring back both Boba Fett and his armor, and then never have him wear it again.
However, the armor was a kind of Maguffin to open the series. Djarin’s season opening adventure was set up through a false rumor. He was looking for more of his own people. He was told Vanth was a Mandalorian.
It turned out, it was just someone posing as one. With that in mind, there’s no reason to believe the famous bounty hunter has to wear his old gear, in order to have a part to play in the upcoming season of The Mandalorian.
