Why Braunwyn Windham-Burke Was Scared Before Her Sobriety
Braunwyn Windham-Burke first announced she was a recovering alcoholic on the Season 15 premiere of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Her confessional was raw and emotional, and unlike anything, anyone has ever seen before. In addition, Braunwyn has been talking about her sobriety in the media circuit.
She previously revealed that the RHOC producers hid her alcoholism. Now, she’s opening up about her journey to sobriety. The mother of seven admitted that when it came to drinking, she thought she would die if she didn’t quit. She was in fear of ending her life before making the decision to get sober.
Braunwyn Windham-Burke makes a new admission about her sobriety
The RHOC star spoke to Access Hollywood about her decision to quit drinking for good. According to a report published in the Daily Mail, she admitted that she didn’t want to quit drinking at first.
“I have tried every way to drink… only on weekends, only beer… I have tried it all,” Braunwyn Windham-Burke admitted.
Before making the decision to quit drinking, she admits she was spiraling before she filmed the new season of the Bravo series.
“I was spiraling for a while, about four months, and I would try to bring it back in because I didn’t want to stop drinking. I really didn’t. That’s the truth,” Braunwyn continued.
But then she had a “divine intervention moment.” This led her to change her lifestyle forever.
“I’m going to die if this keeps going,” Braunwyn said. Before she revealed what she told herself that very day, “I’m going to die. I’m not much younger than my dad when he died from this. And I have to stop drinking today.”
Braunwyn relied on her husband, Sean Burke, for support. While she hid most of her addiction from Sean, she knew she had to come clean to him.
“[I told him] everything [I’ve] been hiding from him, and he helped me,” she added.
Braunwyn finally decided to get help for her alcoholism by attending an AA meeting. She recently announced that she’s nine months sober on Instagram.
Did her feud with Gina Kirschenheiter have something to do with her sobriety?
In a separate interview, Braunwyn Windham-Burke talked about her fellow co-stars. On the October 23 episode of Us Weekly’s “Getting Real With the Real Housewives” podcast, she explained her feud with Gina. While she doesn’t understand why her RHOC co-stars unfollowed her after filming ended, she thinks some of them ended their friendship because of her sobriety story hitting “a little too close to home.”
Braunwyn revealed that she and Gina’s encounter this season “had to do with [her] sobriety.”
“In her defense, she didn’t know I was sober. I hadn’t told her,” Braunwyn explained. “She said something to me, I’m very shaky, she says something to me not knowing I was sober, and it throws me over the edge.”
