Will Jonathan Majors Return to ‘Lovecraft Country’ Season 2?
Lovecraft Country Season 1 certainly ended the way it began: with style. Now there are a lot of questions for the potential second season, including whether Jonathan Majors will return.
Caution: There are spoilers in this post for the Lovecraft Country Season 1 finale if you haven’t caught up yet.
The first season finale, titled “Full Circle,” brought characters from the past to the present day thanks to magic to help Tic prevent Christina Braithwaite from carrying out her big plan. She wanted immortality, and it meant the death of Tic to gain that. The question was whether Ji-ah’s vision of Tic’s death would come true, or whether everyone could prevent that from happening.
In the end, it looks like Tic would make the ultimate sacrifice. Ji-ah and Leti would work together to make sure his plan to prevent Christina from gaining immortality would happen, but not in the way he expected.
Has HBO Renewed Lovecraft Country for a Second Season?
Right now, HBO hasn’t renewed or canceled Lovecraft Country. That’s not a terrible thing on the surface, although this is a series that deserves another season. TV Series Finale doesn’t give a full look at the live TV ratings since many watch through the HBO app or through HBO Max, but it gives us a rough idea of how the show performed. It has ended ninth out of 34 shows on HBO. Of course, this includes Game of Thrones, which came to an end in 2019, and Watchmen, which wasn’t renewed earlier this year.
Lovecraft Country Season 2 could happen, but it is one of those shows on the fence. With the current social climate, HBO should do the right thing.
It’s not like there aren’t storylines available. The series was based on and created a continuation of Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel of the same name. There were some storylines in the novel that didn’t happen in the first season, offering plenty of source material to get started.

Will Jonathan Majors Return for Season 2?
The big question is whether Jonathan Majors will return. He played the lead character, Tic, who did die at the end of the finale. Christina had been one step ahead of the group, realizing the plan for Ruby to pass on some of Christina’s hair and nails for the groups’ spell. What she didn’t realize was that they would have a kumiho, who would combine Tic and Christina for Leti to finish the spell. However, it didn’t bring Tic back to life.
This doesn’t mean there’s no way for Majors to return. Leti died in the second episode but was quickly brought back to life. Uncle George died but he returned for an episode when Hippolyta went through the various timelines. There are always ways for the dead to return when it comes to a show with magic.
Leti knows how to cast spells. There’s a chance for her to find a way to bring Tic back should Lovecraft Country Season 2 happen.
