This fall’s Bachelorette is a stickler for the rules. In a sneak peek of Tuesday’s season premiere, ET revealed one of the contestants contacted Clare Crawley before the show began taping.
As the site pointed out, early contact usually isn’t an issue. Everyone competing turns in their phones before the contestants are named.
However, the coronavirus pandemic changed things. Bachelorette production shut down in March. That was just weeks after they announced the contestants.
For at least one contestant, knowing Clare was the Bachelorette meant he felt like he could reach out. Blake Moynes called Clare over the summer.
“During the quarantine, Clare posted on Instagram on a Story that she was really struggling right now because of what her mom was going through in the hospital,” he tells the camera on night one. “So, I want to check in if she’s OK.”
If he thought making the call was going to give him an advantage, it appears he miscalculated. Later on in the episode, the two talk about the rule breaking. Clare doesn’t seem pleased.
“So, over quarantine, it was really hard for me. And I didn’t want to bring this up, but there are these weird rules that we have to follow for the show of not contacting somebody, and you were the only guy who reached out to me the entire time,” she tells Blake in the clip. “So, you broke the rule that you’re not supposed to contact somebody.”

‘Bachelorette’ Rules Not Tantamount?
The sneak peek answered a question host Chris Harrison posed in previews. Whether or not the 39-year-old hairdresser contacted the contestants before the show aired was a bit of a cliffhanger.
It turns out Bachelorette producers aren’t as angry as Clare appeared to be at Blake. Harrison says in another clip ET got its hands on, that they might change things up for future seasons.
Harrison added that Clare told him she started looking through the contestants. She started getting a feel for everyone. He doesn’t think that’s a terrible idea for next year.
Clare Crawley Headlines Odd Season
The coronavirus pandemic was a monkey wrench for Bachelorette showrunners for more than one reason. Most people who follow the show closely know there’s going to be a change early on.
Clare dropped out about two weeks into the new season. It turns out she fell for someone two weeks into production.
Not long after the season premieres, fans will meet a brand new Bachelorette. Tayshia Adams is taking the baton and will hand out the roses.
However, there are still some mysteries to unravel. Will Blake get into trouble for his rule-breaking? Is Clare really upset with him or is a misdirect on the horizon?
