‘Below Deck Med’ Fans Slam Andy For Not Addressing Cameo-Gate

Below Deck Med fans want answers. Captain Sandy Yawn and bosun Malia White made a virtual appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Monday night. Fans thought their encounter would be awkward. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, a Cameo video of Sandy went viral.

In the video, Sandy claimed that Malia is “secretly gay” and that production even knows about it. The video went viral after Malia confirmed her split from chef Tom Checketts. However, it’s unclear when Sandy recorded the video, or if she intentionally made it to address Malia’s personal life. Fans were disappointed when Andy Cohen didn’t ask her about it.

Malia White confirmed that she’s single, but shares little details

Watch What Happens Live started off with host Andy Cohen asking Malia if she’s single.

“I am single, yes,” she said. “I am very much single.”

While she confirmed her relationship status, she declined to share the details behind their split. Last week, Malia posted memes about cheating to her Instagram Stories. This led Below Deck Med fans to believe that Tom was unfaithful. The couple reunited in London before their split.

“What happened?” Andy asked.

“This industry is tough,” Malia explained. “We work apart for a long time and there are some bad apples out there.”

Andy revealed that the cast filmed the reunion several weeks ago. He noted that Tom and Malia were “all over each other” during the show. The WWHL host also hinted that they might’ve been in an open relationship at the time.

“My understanding was that you kind of were open while you were away and then you came back together, or maybe I was wrong,” Andy said.

“Well, I think I was wrong about that, too,” Malia responded with a laugh.

Andy then asked Malia if she found out via social media. But she refused to spill the details. She just reinstated that she’s “single” and boatmances are tough. Sandy chimed in and said: “It’s yachting.”

But that’s all Andy talked about. He didn’t mention the infamous Cameo video that Sandy created. It was as if he didn’t know it existed. Fans took to social media, asking for answers.

Below Deck Med fans slam Andy for not addressing “the elephant in the room”

Shortly after the broadcast, fans took to Twitter. They wanted to know why Andy never asked Sandy about her Cameo video. Here are just some of the comments:

  • “So @Andy Has #MaliaWhite watched @CaptSandyYawn recent cameo??”
  • “So is Andy going to ask sandy about being higher than a kite on cameo telling the world malia is gay??? Orrrrr are we just gunna bypass that gem?? [sic]”
  • “Wow, this entire episode of #WWHL is SOS lame. The questions are all soft, & Malia & Sandy answering very snidely, AND Andy is not asking Sandy about the live Cameo remarks about Malia. Worst #WWHL I’ve ever seen.”
  • “Andy should be asking #CaptLurk why she said Malia was gay and spoke for production saying they thought it as well. The next question should be asking her if she drunk [sic] when doing the cameo.”

It’s unclear when the episodes of Watch What Happens Live are recorded. They’re not technically “live” since they’re virtually filmed amid the coronavirus pandemic. Some fans speculate whether Sandy and Malia are returning next season, and that’s why Andy didn’t ask them. Rumors are swirling that both ladies are filming the next season of Below Deck Mediterranean.

Sandy took to her Instagram Stories to issue a half-apology. She claims that her words “were taken out of context.” Prior to Sandy’s apology, Malia said in her latest Instagram post that she doesn’t understand why everyone thinks she’s gay. If she were gay, then she would be out and proud.
