Kim Kardashian West is just the latest social media celebrity aiming to use her voice to create change.
She started her post by saying that she loved how easily she can connect with her audience using social media. However, she went on, “I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda, and misinformation.”
Kardashian then went on to talk about groups who aim to sow division. She then said those groups are aiming to split America. Moreover, she said they are taking additional steps for hate. They’ve reportedly continued on even as people died because of their actions.
Kardashian included in her post that social media has been a dangerous tool for these groups. Not only does it have a direct impact on everyday lives, but it can and does affect elections.

I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can’t sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda and misinformation – created by groups to sow division and split America apart – only to take steps after people are killed. Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy. Please join me tomorrow when I will be “freezing” my Instagram and FB account to tell Facebook to #StopHateForProfit. Link in bio for more info on how to preserve truth.
Kim Kardashian’s calls to action
The KUWTK star then said she will be “freezing” her Instagram and Facebook accounts in reaction to social media’s negative impact. The goal is to show Facebook their role in this has not gone unnoticed.
While she might be the most prominent voice on this latest campaign, she’s hardly standing alone. The #StopHateForProfit campaign first surfaced earlier this summer.
A civil rights coalition that includes the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) staged a similar protest in July.
Rather than freezing posts, that protest was aimed at hitting Facebook where it counted most. They went after the social media giant’s wallet.
Kardashian and others encouraged people to stop buy products from companies advertising on Facebook. That, in turn, led to those firms pulling their ad buys.
Beyond the KUWTK centerpiece, it’s not known just how many celebrities will join in. Several of the biggest influencers on Instagram will lend their voices to the campaign.
Kim Kardashian’s new career?
The #StopHateForProfit battle is just the latest social justice issue Kardashian has adopted.
Not long after President Donald Trump took office, he found himself lobbied by Kardashian about prison reform. One individual who got her focus was Alice Johnson.
Eventually, Johnson was pardoned by the president. In his announcement, he was careful to credit Kim for her work.
With Keeping Up With The Kardashians ending its long and uber-popular run, she might need a new calling. Should this campaign prove to be fruitful, it could be a jumping-off point.
2020 hasn’t been a banner year for Kim in her personal and private life. Despite that, she’s attempting to focus on what she can change and move on from the things she can’t.
