Don’t adjust your television, General Hospital fans. You’re not accidentally watching NYPD Blue. Actress Kim Delaney is returning to her daytime roots with a role on ABC’s General Hospital. As long-time soap fans know, she played Jenny on All My Children. It was one of her very first acting gigs before she went on to primetime success.

Who Will Kim Delaney Play on General Hospital?

The casting announcement from Deadline did not specify who Kim Delaney will play on General Hospital or when she will appear on-air. The daytime sudser has only been filming post-COVID for a few weeks. As fans know, television production was shut down in March and is just now slowly resuming.

So, it may be a few weeks before Kim Delaney graces our screens again. However, fans were more than happy to speculate about who she will play. Soap Opera Digest writer Carolyn Hinsey guesses that Kim Delaney will play a mom role of a “front-burner character.”

Many fans agreed with her assessment. They replied that Kim Delaney could be Chase’s (Josh Swickard) mom and Finn (Michael Easton’s) stepmom. If this is true, fans hope that James Reade will reprise his role of Gregory, Chase and Finn’s father. The actor recurs on Days of Our Lives.

However, other fans guess that Kim Delaney may appear as Cyrus’ (Jeff Kober) wife. Another fan floats the idea of her playing Elizabeth’s (Rebecca Herbst) mother. Elizabeth has been on-screen since 1997 and GH has yet to bring her mom to Port Charles.

Fans do agree on one demand: They NEED a Jenny/Tad reunion.

Fans Hope She Reunites On-Screen With AMC Alum Michael Knight

Kim Delaney isn’t the only former AMC star currently on General Hospital. Michael E. Knight played the uber-popular Tad, brother to Jenny on All My Children. As AMC fans know, Jenny was killed off in a jet ski explosion in 1984 when Kim left the soap.

However, Tad mentioned his sister often. And now fans clamor for an on-screen reunion of the sibling duo!

General Hospital also recently brought on soap vet Christopher Cousins.

NYPD Reboot Not Picked Up By ABC

Bringing Kim Delaney to Port Charles is a casting coup! The actress won an Emmy for her portrayal of alcoholic Diane on NYPD Blue. Unfortunately, it seems the storyline hit a little TOO close to home. The actress made headlines in 2002 for driving while intoxicated.

However, she managed to salvage her career with Lifetime’s Army Wives.

In 2018, fans heard that ABC was planning on rebooting NYPD Blue. The new show would focus on Andy’s (Dennis Franz) son. Kim Delaney was to reprise her role as Diane. However, Deadline reported last year that the pilot was never picked up by ABC.

Yet, Kim Delaney’s IMDb  profile shows ‘NYPD TV Movie’ completed in 2019. Is there a chance the unaired pilot could be retooled into a TV movie?

If not, fans can catch up with Kim Delaney once she starts airing on GH. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Follow us on social media for updates on all your favorite TV shows.
