Former Bachelorette Jillian Harris is a fabulous interior designer. She is enjoying life with her fiance Justin and two beautiful children. However, there have been things in her life that have been hard to deal with. Jillian admits her mother has suffered a long time from mental illness. Now, she is expressing her love for her mom and also speaking out against the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Jillian speaks out against mental illness
Jillian went to Instagram to share a photo of herself and her mother. She began her post saying, “Ever since I can remember, my mom has struggled with bipolar. My parents were always the hardest working most wonderful parents… But watching my mama struggle over the last 30-something years has been so heartbreaking and something I’ve never been able to openly share with you until now.”
She continued on saying, “Mental health illnesses are one of the most complex and misunderstood illnesses out there. Unfortunately they still come with such a stigma which I’m hoping little by little we can help break down. Today on the blog, my mom, Peggy… Who is such a warrior strong brave human… has decided to open up about her journey with mental health and where she is today.”

Things everyone should watch for
Jillian says she hopes the blog isn’t where the conversation ends. She said, “It’s important to take care of ourselves, take care of our brains, watch for signs when we are struggling…”
She continued saying it’s important to be okay with not being okay. And, she said everyone should watch out for friends and family and recognize sign that they may not be okay. It’s important to be okay talking about mental health.
Jillian continued on to thank her family for sticking by her mother’s side through all the ups and downs. She concluded her post giving an update on her mom and how she is doing. She said, “Today I am overjoyed and full of emotion to say that my mom has never been better… And God I hope it stays that way. If you are struggling with bipolar or depression… Be patient, be kind with yourself… Do not give up. Even after struggling with this horrible disease for most of her life… My mom finally found something that worked… So I repeat… Do not give up. And what works for one person may not necessarily work for yourself. Get help, be patient. You’ve got this.”
This is a very encouraging story from someone Bachelor Nation loves. Jillian has made a beautiful life for herself. And, through it all she has stood by her mom and supported her through the tough times.
Aside from speaking out about mental health, Jillian recently shared she was supposed to finally get married this summer. However, the virus prevented this from happening. And, she also admitted to accidentally throwing out her wedding ring. What a year 2020 has been for so many! So, the new plan for Jillian and Justin will be to marry next year if all goes according to plan. The couple already share two children together.
