Project Runway alum Michael Costello is sharing his side of the story. The fashion designer is speaking out after the Kylie Jenner dress drama. It all started when he took to the KUWTK star’s Instagram page to call her out for not tagging him in her recent post.
Lala Kent of Vanderpump Rules took notice of Michael’s post. She admits that she was lurking and decided to slam him on her Instagram Stories. Lala claims he passed on her when she requested him to design her wedding gown.
But that’s not all. Savannah Chrisley revealed her negative experience with the designer as well.
Michael Costello speaks out about dress drama
The dress designer decided to speak out about the controversy. He slammed Kylie Jenner’s 23rd birthday dress on Instagram on Wednesday, August 12. Michael Costello wrote a lengthy, calling her out for not tagging fashion designers in her social media posts. Lala Kent and Savannah Chrisley both slammed the designer. They claimed that he snubbed them since they weren’t famous enough. Since then, Michael released a statement to Us Weekly.
“I have no issues or beef with Kylie Jenner,” he told the outlet on Monday, August 17. “I love her. The reason I commented on her post is because she is often tagging some designers but not others.”
He revealed that most celebrities do this. They often tag their hair and makeup stylists but fail to credit fashion designers. But Michael insists there is no bad blood between them.
“In regards to me, there is no bad air,” he continued. “Kylie has worn my outfits about four or five times. She didn’t tag me in posts but her stylist has and she acknowledges me in person and says how much she appreciates my work.”
The reason why Michael spoke out is that he wants to see designers get credit where credit is due. In his interview with Us Weekly, he also shared his side of the story on the Lala Kent and Savannah Chrisley matter.
Addresses Lala Kent and Savannah Chrisley’s comments
Vanderpump Rules star Lala Kent slammed Michael Costello on her Instagram Story. She revealed that she asked him to design her wedding gown. But he told her that she wasn’t “big enough” to work with. As TV Shows Ace previously reported, Michael took to his Instagram Stories to reveal that Lala ditched him — not the other way around. Now, he’s sharing his side of the story.
“A year ago, July 15, 2019, Lala Kent was referred to me by my amazing friend Lorianne who owns ‘Wife of The Party,’ she is wonderful,” he explained to Us Weekly. “We set up an appointment for a bridal consultation for Lala. I said of course and we set up the fitting. Lala never came, she blew the meeting off.”
Michael claimed that Lala wanted a dress for free. He also hinted that Savannah did the same thing to him.

Y’all… Designer Michael Costello is currently bashing @kyliejenner for not giving credit to certain designers. And then @lalakent came forward saying Michael refused to dress her because she wasn’t “famous enough.” And HE DID THE SAME THING TO ME FOR AN NBC EVENT!! Wouldn’t dress me because I just wasn’t famous enough for him. It’s truly so sad. But then @waltercollection dressed me in this gorgeous design and made me feel so much better!! 😍😭🙌🏼
“It’s completely false for Lala and Savannah to say they are not big enough celebrities to work with,” Michael said. “That is based off the assumption that A-list stars are not paying me, but they are. The larger celebrities I work with such as J.Lo and Mariah Carey pay me. They give me a budget and a timeline.”
He wants to remind everyone that “designers and myself deserve to make a living just like anyone else does.” Michael doesn’t like being called out because he turned someone down. He continued to defend his fellow designers and said that they “deserve the same respect that anyone else gets for their work.”
