Did Michelle Duggar Shade Derick Dillard While Speaking At Conference?

This week, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar both spoke at a conference. It’s a family conference with the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP). Both the Duggar family and the Bates family are a part of the IBLP. It appears that Gil Bates of Bringing Up Bates is one of the top organizers of this big annual conference.

While the YouTube videos of the conference are unlisted and difficult to find, Katie Joy of Without a Crystal Ball found these videos and talked about them. And, according to Katie Joy, Michelle appears to throw shade at her son-in-law, Derick Dillard. Derick married Jill, and he has recently been sharing insider information about Jill’s family. He even promises a tell-all book. As a result, Jim Bob is getting lawyers ready.

Michelle Duggar seemingly talks about Derick Dillard

At the conference, Jim Bob and Michelle spoke together, giving two separate talks. The first talk is about politics, while the second is about family.

In her talk, Michelle mentions a book that was written in the 1860s. The book is all about what a Christian family should do in the home. In particular, she reads about the “family church.” So, she reads parts of the book aloud. While she does this, she takes her time to define the words “gossip” and “slander” specifically.

At this point, Michelle says, “Memorize the definition of gossip: sharing private information with those who are not a part of the problem or part of the solution. And then slander is telling the truth with a design to hurt.” Katie Joy points out that slander is actually about false information, rather than truth, as Michelle mentioned.

It’s also worth noting that Michelle read much of the section of the book word-for-word. So, it seems odd that she would throw in the definitions of “gossip” and “slander” when they aren’t mentioned in the section at all.

Katie Joy believes that Michelle went off-script at this moment to speak more directly to either Jill or Derick. Also, Katie Joy mentions Michelle’s definition of “slander,” which is about someone telling the truth to hurt someone. Katie Joy thinks that this could mean that Michelle is alleging that Derick’s words about the Duggar family are truthful.

Jim Bob and Michelle not in the program

Previously, Katie Joy discovered that Jim Bob and Michelle weren’t listed in the program as speakers. Jim Bob was listed as one of the presenters, but he was not listed on the schedule. In previous years, Jim Bob spoke on the first or second day of the conference.

This is suspicious, as the Duggar family unfollowed the Bates family temporarily on social media. While they followed the main Bates family page again, they have yet to follow any of the kids again.

Nonetheless, it’s unclear if anything actually went down between the Duggar family and the Bates family. Since Jim Bob and Michelle did end up speaking at the conference, it must not have been anything too major.

So, do you think Michelle is throwing shade at Derick? Or, do you think she was simply trying to share an important message? Let us know in the comments below.
