Bekah Martinez gets real

Bekah, former Bachelor contestant, is talking a bit about her great grandfather on her Instagram. Apparenlty, he was murdered when Bekah was much younger, People says. She made it clear that the two of them were very close while she was growing up.

“My grandfather (Papa) was indigenous american and would collect traditional baskets and other items like this cradle board. He even taught himself how to weave, and we still have some of his half-finished projects,” Bekah said. “I’ve rarely talked about him publicly,” she shared. “We were extremely close and he was murdered when I was 17. He was only 59.”

She went on to talk about all of the great things he taught her and all the projects that they did together. However, she says the saddest part is that he will never get to meet her children.

Right now, Bekah has two children, Franklin and Ruth.

“All of the memories with my Papa are the happiest and most magical, but I always cry at the thought that he’ll never meet his great-grandbabies. He would have loved to see Franklin like this,” she admitted.

My grandfather (Papa) was indigenous american and would collect traditional baskets and other items like this cradle board. He even taught himself how to weave, and we still have some of his half-finished projects. I’ve rarely talked about him publicly. We were extremely close and he was murdered when I was 17. He was only 59. He was a dreamer and a doer; a maker, an artist. He taught me how to bake Challah bread. Flowers came alive in his hands; he was a master florist. He built a home in the mountains with his own two hands. All of the memories with my Papa are the happiest and most magical, but I always cry at the thought that he’ll never meet his great-grandbabies. He would have loved to see Franklin like this. One of the hardest parts of losing someone is losing all the years you expected to have with them. You feel robbed of memories that should have been. And grief isn’t linear. Sometimes 8 years feels like a lifetime, and other days like today, it feels like no time at all.

Bekah’s second child is born

Just recently, Bekah actually gave birth to Franklin at home. Apparenlty, it has been a process as Ruth learns how to be a big sister. It’s probably a pretty big transition for such a little girl.

“When I’m around, she kisses his forehead and is so sweet,” Bekah said. “I walk into the kitchen the other day to go get something and I walk back into the living room and she’s standing over his swing hitting him as hard as she can — like straight-up arm-above-the-head whacking, in full force.”

Definitely sounds like Ruth has some learning to do. However, all children tend to go through this, so it’s not too surprising that she’s having a bit of trouble adjusting to the new little one in the home.

“So that’s another thing,” she admitted. “I have to be his protector and protect him from Ruth trying to murder him.”
