One can always count on their best friends to embarrass them. Right? Well that’s at least holding true for new Bachelor lead Matt James. The Bachelor 2021 was announced on Good Morning America, Friday. With the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Matt was announced from Florida where he’s been staying with Tyler Cameron. While Matt was speaking to the world as the first Black lead on The Bachelor, Tyler was filming and posting to Instagram.

Congrats to my brother @mattjames919 on being named the Bachelor. This is all a testament of who you are as a person. Now the world gets to see the person you are and the heart you have. You can change the world. Proud of you and so excited for you. Not excited that somebody will be taking my spot as your snuggle buddy 😢 . PS peep the drool 🤤
Yep, Matt was really pantless
When one makes television appearances from home, nobody knows if pants are being worn or not. That is unless your best friend is filming it all and posting it on social media. Most interviews just show the waist up so no problem. So, everyone believed Matt was dressed for success in a very familiar salmon colored jacket and blue button up shirt. Yep, it looks to be the one Tyler and other alum had worn and then fans saw Hannah Brown try on for some selfies.
People shared Tyler’s Instagram story. Tyler panned back and forth in the video from the TV showing Matt’s interview and to Matt sitting giving the interview. Of course the television screen showed only Matt’s upper half. Tyler showed it all and fans could see he was wearing nothing but a short blue pair of boxers.
Tyler captioned the post, “Let’s go @mattjames919.” Matt later reposted Tyler’s story. He captioned it, “Blessed & Honored 🙌🏽 Proverbs 18:24 🤞🏽.”
Tyler later congratulated Matt on Instagram. He shared a photo of the two of them leaning on each other in a car. He said how proud he was of him. Tyler also said everyone will now get to see the heart that Matt has. He concluded with, ” Not excited that somebody will be taking my spot as your snuggle buddy 😢 .”
He is honored to be the first black lead
Matt is honored to be the first African-American lead for The Bachelor. The only other black lead was Rachel Lindsay as The Bachelorette. Producers are hoping that by announcing the lead early they can get the right contestants. Matt was originally supposed to be on Clare Crawley’s season of The Bachelorette.
He’s disappointed to not be meeting Clare but looking forward to his own journey. Matt is interested in meeting a selfless woman who shows compassion and caring. He believes these virtues can be found in women of all races, shapes and sizes. He is hoping to meet a wide variety of ladies when Season 25 starts filming.
As for Clare, her season is still happening. Producers said they are working hard to get production up and running again. It’s not yet known exactly how the producers will move forward, but every aspect is being looked at.
They are considering moving her entire season to a resort somewhere in the United States. With the ongoing coronavirus, it is unclear exactly how Matt’s season will film as well. Stay tuned for more news on The Bachelor as it becomes available.
