Lawson Bates outraged by George Floyd’s death

The death of George Floyd sees anger erupt around the country. The incident, which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, came about after an employee reported to the police that they suspected he passed off a fake $2o bill. During his arrest, police officer, Derek Chauvin knelt on George’s chest and neck, for over eight minutes, the BBC reported. Unfortunately, the owner of the shop knew George as a regular customer, but he wasn’t there when the employee called the police.

George died and the officer faces charges of murder. But, as it involved unnecessary force, and a white officer, the death of the black man takes on a sinister tone, people feel. It’s never right that a person dies at the hands of the police for a non-violent crime. But black deaths seem way too frequent, many people believe. That accounts for the anger and outrage that rages across the country. Lawson Bates, a small TV celebrity added his voice to the many people demanding justice.

Instagram post for Bates’ fans

In his post, Lawson angrily stated that he feels the whole thing goes against “the oath” that “law enforcement” officers take. In his long message, he asked his followers to do what they can to make a difference in the world. Naturally, his fans responded to him. Lots of them see violence flaring up in their own communities right now. One said, “Couldn’t have said it any better Lawson! Praying for our country tonight. 🙏🏼” Others commented on how violence grows.

Most people agree there’s a case to answer, but the violence seems over the top, they think. One person said, “All lives matter, and I don’t understand what destruction of innocent people’s property does to show that we are all equal. Praying for peace tonight!!” Another one wrote on Lawson Bates’ post: “Thank you for the police and National guard that put their life’s out there to stop the terror and enforce the curfew. It’s another day to see what happens next.”

It seems that many people understand that a sad death happened. But, they also fear the violence as other innocent lives that could be lost. All they can do for now is pray for the soul of George Floyd and for their country.
