Tiger King for Netflix was a phenomenon not seen on television in a long time. During the height of the stay at home orders, Americans were glued to this crazy tale of roadside zoo entrepreneur Joe Exotic that was enhanced with the recollections of TV producer Rick Kirkham.

Kirkham was living at the Oklahoma roadside zoo, ostensibly to film a reality TV series about Joe and his odd extended family who raised and bred tigers in Oklahoma.

Tiger King begins the presentation as a conflict between Joe Exotic (Oklahoma’s Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park) and his arch nemesis, Carole Baskin (Florida’s Big Cat Rescue), but it goes far deeper and stranger, with Kirkham, a former Inside Edition reporter, guiding us.

What happened to him during the course of the documentary Tiger King filming was nothing short of bizarre.

On Tuesday, (June 2) Investigation Discovery will premiere The Truth Behind Joe Exotic: The Rick Kirkham Story to flesh out the details the Netflix documentary had missed.

In our TV Shows Ace wild preview, Kirkham strips down completely naked and shares that he survived “the madness” of Tiger King and is very happy living in Norway.

In this one-hour special, Kirkham dives into the progression of his nightmare and how he faced his tipping point of fight or flee just three months after being hired to produce Exotic’s rambling internet show.

ID says:

“Kirkham knew he struck gold with the quirky cast of characters and captured all the content he could for his own reality show. But, after a fallout with Exotic, Kirkham found his entire collection of footage ravaged by an arson fire, a criminal act which has yet to be prosecuted.”

It was another house fire that he suffered that was the catalyst for Kirkham knew he had to flee to leave and seek safety.  The fallout with Exotic meant that Kirkham believed that the Tiger King was responsible for the destruction of his entire collection of footage ravaged by a suspect arson fire. After all of this, Kirkham felt he had to leave the country and seek safety.

Kirkham settled down in a small village in Norway to escape it all.

Now, Kirkham is stripping down, literally, and he is ready to reveal his side of the insane saga once and for all and he will unveil exclusive footage from some material that survived the Oklahoma arson fire.
