‘Stranger Things’ Season 4: Joe Keery Says This Season Will Be Scariest Yet

Joe Keery plays Steve Harrington on Stranger Things

Stranger Things has proved to be a highly popular, original fantasy/sci-fi series on Netflix. So much so, it was renewed for Season 4. Fans are longing to hear when they can expect the new season to air. They are also looking for hints as to what will happen this time around.

One spoiler has already been revealed… The fact that Jim Hopper (David Harbour) didn’t die. From a teaser trailer, he is seen to be in what looks like a Russian jail. Now, an interview with Joe Keery (Steve Harrington) reveals more. This season will likely be the scariest one yet.

Stranger Things ramping up the fear?

The teaser trailer didn’t show much else about the upcoming season of Stranger Things. However, People reports Joe Keery was interviewed by Total Film Magazine. He gives a little insight into what fans can expect. From what he says, it sounds like it will definitely be scary.

Keery says Season 4 is “pretty amazing,” adding that the Duffer brothers have done it again. He adds he knows he says this every year. However, this year is definitely going to be much scarier than previous years. Joe said it’s because last year was “pretty dark.”

Joe plays heartthrob Steve Harrington on the show. In the last season, his look was a little spoiled by his Scoops Ahoy uniform! However, this year, Keery says he’s in for a whole new look. He does say he knows that costume  served a purpose, but he is “glad to retire it.” He jokingly asks if he has it at home for Halloween. He responds he doesn’t, unfortunately. Joe says they wouldn’t let him have it. However, he does hint “one day!”

Stranger Things cast reunites in March

The cast met up in Atlanta in March for the Season 4 table read. Everyone is there, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Millie Bobby Brown and Caleb McLaughlin. Of course, Natalia Dyer, Noah Schnapp, Maya Hawke, Charlie Heaton, Sadie Sink, Cara Buono, Priah Ferguson and Keery are also there. In a video posted by Netflix, they were seen to be hugging each other. They were laughing and generally having a great time.

David Harbour returning for Season 4 thrills fans. The first trailer revealed this. This is great, especially after Jim Hopper’s apparent death in the last season. Other than that, very little is, as yet, known.

Netflix Original series growing in popularity

No doubt, Stranger Things will continue to grow in popularity. This is especially so for Season 3, which debuted last summer on the Fourth of July. The season received the biggest viewership numbers for a Netflix Original series or film within the first few days.

In November last year, a post is made to the Stranger Things writers’ room Twitter account. It reveals the first page of the first episode of Season 4. The premiere episode already has a name: “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club.” The account tweeted it was looking for new members, asking “are you in?”

Fans are hoping that Season 4 will debut at around the same time as last year (July). However, it is currently unknown whether the COVID-19 pandemic might affect that. At the moment, fans still expect Strange Things Season 4 to debut this year.
