’90 Day Fiance’: Stephanie Matto Dishes On ‘Scary’ Coming Out Experience
90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days star Stephanie Matto recently gave TLC fans a window into her personal life. She dished on a very relateable experience for those within the LGBTQ community. She shared what coming out as bisexual to those close to her was like.
“I previously have dated women casually, gone out on dates — things would tend to fizzle out and I always just felt like it would just be easier to continue introducing men to my family and just have my family on a need to know basis,” Stephanie Matto explained to Us Weekly.
“But I think one of the important things that I go into in the show is coming out to my family, and trying to embrace who I am finally after keeping it hidden for so long.”
Stephanie Matto explained there were reasons why she hid her sexuality from her family.
After hiding her sexuality, she decided to reveal it on television. Naturally, many people wondered why. Fortunately, she had an answer for this too.
She continued to explain to the outlet: “A lot of people might wonder why did I decide to do it now and on television? It’s pretty crazy, but I’m a pretty crazy person. I felt like this was like ripping the Band-Aid off, like, the ultimate coming out. You can’t back out now, you just got to do it. You got to jump right in.”
The reality TV personality revealed it was scary to expose herself to the world.
Coming out to your family and friends as bisexual is a scary experience. Stephanie Matto told the media outlet it was “scary” to share this side of herself with the entire world all at one time. She admitted that part of her fear stemmed from not knowing how people would feel about it.
“There’s people that have been following my social media for a long time, and I’m sure they’re probably very caught off guard. And then also my family, their reaction— their approval means a lot to me. So I want to feel accepted.”
It appears as if Stephanie Matto’s biggest fear was that her following and her family wouldn’t accept her for who she was. She feared that once she was honest… Some people would walk away from her. And, she didn’t want that.

As those who have followed the 90 Days franchise know, Stephanie Matto made history. Her relationship with Erika continues during Season 4 of 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days. Notably, she’s the first cast member involved in a same-sex relationship.
