Duggar: Why Doesn’t Jill’s Family Have A TV?

Anyone who knows about the Duggar family knows that they adhere to conservative, fundamentalist Christian values. If you watched the TLC shows 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On, you saw this on TV. Some people believe that they’re extreme with their values.

As the Duggar kids have grown up, some have made changes to how they live their lives. For example, Jinger and Jill no longer wear dresses and skirts. These women have started wearing jeans. Some of the women seem to be using contraception, which their parents don’t believe in. Though they no longer live under their parents’ roof, it can’t be easy for them to break away and try things for themselves. So, some of them have maintained their parents’ values–even as adults.

Jill is one of the Duggar kids who has changed in a lot of ways. But, it seems that she has stuck to some of the same values her parents raised her with.

Jill documents family movie night

On her Instagram stories, Jill shared about a fun family movie night she had. She, her husband Derick, and two sons, Israel and Samuel, watched a movie together.

Duggar fans were quick to notice that the family wasn’t watching the movie on the TV. They were watching the movie on a laptop, which was placed on the coffee table in front of the couch.

In the past, her followers have seen her family using the laptop instead of a TV. It appears that the family doesn’t have a TV at all.

Duggar fans wonder why Jill doesn’t have a TV

The Duggar family doesn’t really watch TV. TV Shows Ace previously reported that the kids couldn’t watch themselves on TV. Growing up, the kids didn’t have a chance to watch TV.

Jim Bob Duggar spoke with Huffington Post in 2011. He said, “I grew up watching TV, but when we got married a doctor friend of ours encouraged us not to have a pet or a TV the first year of marriage. So we did that. For the first year we lived on love. And after that someone gave us a TV and for the first three weeks we were both glued to it. Communications dropped off, we weren’t talking as much, and we couldn’t believe the content on TV we didn’t think was appropriate. This is detrimental to our marriage. We prayed about it and felt we had to pull it out of our house, which we did. And I would say that is one of the best things we have done for our family.”

Perhaps, Jill feels the same way that her dad does. But, Duggar fans have pointed out that watching TV or movies on a laptop isn’t much different from watching those things on a TV.

Some of the grown Duggar kids have branched out from their family’s way of life. Recently, Jinger Vuolo revealed that she was watching the memorial service for basketball legend Kobe Bryant on TV. Some of the adults have chosen to get TVs while others have followed in their parents’ footsteps.

What do you think of Jill and Derick not having a TV? Do you think that watching a movie on a laptop is too similar to watching a movie on TV? Share your thoughts about this below.
