On social media and her YouTube channel, Jessa shared all about how they celebrated Henry’s birthday. She revealed that the gave him a present each day leading up to his birthday.

On Instagram, Jessa shared and said, “This year we decided to change things up—Instead of opening his gifts all at once, we decided to start the week before his birthday and give one gift a day so he would have time to appreciate and really enjoy each one.”

While many of her followers seemed to love this idea, others were skeptical for a couple of reasons.

Jessa gets backlash for not wrapping Henry’s gifts

In her post about Henry’s birthday, the Duggar daughter shared clips of Henry opening his birthday gifts. Fans were quick to notice that the three-year-old was opening Amazon packages and not presents wrapped in pretty paper.

Several of Jessa’s followers asked about this. One wrote, “Do they mind things not being wrapped in wrapping paper? Just opening mailing bags?” To this, Jessa said, “Not at all.”

Some of the other comments about this weren’t so nice. Some Duggar fans and critics were seriously concerned about Henry missing out on tearing wrapping paper. Jessa added that there’s less to recycle this way.

A few of Jessa’s followers defended her, mentioning how exciting it is to open packages—even without pretty paper.

Duggar fan wonders if Henry needs “more than one gift”

Jessa also received comments asking why she gave her son so many gifts. Someone asked, “I don’t understand why he needs more than one gift at all. Even that is unnecessary because he is too young to know it’s his birthday without you telling him.

To this, Jessa replied, “True, he is young, and he doesn’t quite grasp the ‘birthday’ thing. We chose gifts that the whole family can enjoy— not just him— though he gets the joy of opening and ownership. Classic books, bird feeder, etc. There was one gift not for sharing: new underwear. Ha! We try to keep it practical and educational.

Jessa is one of the Duggar kids who often claps back when she gets unnecessary advice from her commenters. She has even clapped back at parent-shamers before. Many of her followers think she does a great job of raising her kids. Of course, because she’s put herself in the public eye on social media, she receives criticism on everything she posts. Most of fans’ comments tend to be positive though.
