Families all over the world are preparing for the holiday season. The Duggar family of TLC’s 19 Kids & Counting and Counting On are getting ready too.
Recently, the Duggar family hosted their Ugly Sweater Party. Josiah and Lauren Duggar are decorating for Christmas.
In her blogs a few years back, Michelle Duggar talked about the family’s Christmas traditions. She wrote, “It’s an exciting time. We decorate. It’s a big birthday party for Jesus. We make banners and put them all around the house and put out our nativity scene. We’ve got a big beautiful nativity that has the Christ child in the manger, Joseph and Mary and some of the wise men and the shepherds. That goes out on our counter and then we surround it with pretty white lights. And so, that’s our big emphasis.”
She also wrote, “We kept that idea out of the whole celebration, we explained to the children who Santa Claus was historically, but focused on his good deeds and his ministering to children. We tell them about the true person of Saint Nicholas, but we don’t sensationalize him.”
Of course, the grown Counting On kids can decide how they celebrate. It seems that Jessa Seewald is teaching her kids the same meaning of Christmas that she learned.
Counting On – Spurgeon and Henry prepare for the holidays
On social media, both Ben and Jessa Seewald shared cute videos of their two sons, Spurgeon, 4, and Henry, 2. In Jessa’s video, Spurgeon is retelling the biblical Christmas story. His little brother, Henry, joins him. Throughout the two video clips, Spurgeon is using hand motions to help him tell the story.

Spurgeon wanted to try telling us the story of the birth of Jesus all by himself, so he planted himself on his stool and took off. Then Henry wanted to get in on the action, so he brought a large pot to sit on, and joined in. We’ve been working on this passage for a few months, a little at a time, explaining the story and memorizing the verses from Luke 2:1-20.
In her post, Jessa writes, “Spurgeon wanted to try telling us the story of the birth of Jesus all by himself, so he planted himself on his stool and took off. Then Henry wanted to get in on the action, so he brought a large pot to sit on, and joined in. We’ve been working on this passage for a few months, a little at a time, explaining the story and memorizing the verses from Luke 2:1-20.”
On the same day, Ben shared a post of the boys sitting in the same spots they were for Jessa’s video. In these three videos, the boys are singing Christmas songs.
In the comment sections of both posts, Counting On fans are in love! They think that Spurgeon and Henry are just so cute. They love seeing the boys on social media.
One fan pointed out that, “Little Henry seems to be doing great with his speech!!!” Anna Duggar, Jessa’s sister-in-law, left a comment saying that Jessa did a good job teaching Spurgeon the Bible story. Overall, both videos were very well-received and fans can’t stop watching them. Maybe baby Ivy will join them next year!
