Derek Peth began his search for love during JoJo Fletcher’s season of The Bachelorette. After not winning JoJo’s heart, Derek decided to give Bachelor in Paradise a try. He joined the season 4 cast and met Taylor Nolan. The two fell in love and got engaged. They split a year later in 2018. Derek decided to try one more time. He returned to Mexico for season 6 of Paradise this year. He once again left without finding the love of his life. Will he return to Mexico next summer?
Derek is not sure if he will return to Bachelor in Paradise
US Weekly spoke with Derek at the Bachelor Podcast Suite at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas earlier in September. Derek admits he is not completely ruling out another trip to Paradise. Perhaps the third time would be the magic number for Peth?
Derek, 31, said, “I’m not making an official statement, but right now, I don’t see me doing another show. Then again, I think I said that last time. I’m not sure.” Fans would love to see Derek find love as so many other Bachelor couples have in Mexico. Everyone will have to wait to see what happens when the new season 7 cast starts being announced next year.
What went down during season 6 of Paradise for Derek?
Things started out looking promising for Derek during season 6 of Bachelor in Paradise. He hit it off with Demi Burnett right away and the two began spending a lot of time together. Their chances of finding love together melted away when Demi’s girlfriend, Kristian Haggerty, showed up in Paradise to win Demi’s heart. Demi ultimately proposed to Kristian on the finale which aired September 10. It was the franchise’s first same sex engagement.
Derek is not bitter about Demi choosing Kristian either. He said, “I’m friends with both Demi and Kristian individually, on our own. We went through a crazy thing together but they’re both amazing human beings.” Derek continued, “So, honestly I’m almost closer with Kristian now than I am with Demi. It’s such a weird twist, but she is a super amazing person.”
Derek learned a lot this season in Paradise
Derek admits he learned a lot this season on the beaches of Mexico. He said, “This season was super tough for me. I think what I’ve come to learn is that you can’t make anyone else feel a certain way, just because you do.” He continued saying, “I’m not sure that this season taught me but I’m really blessed to know that I understand that now. I’ve personally thrown myself back into work and not really dated much since the season ended. But I feel ready to date again. Over time I’ve learned to accept rejection as a part of this franchise, and just life. It’s not something against me, it’s just part of life.”
Before Peter Weber was announced as the new Bachelor, fans had hoped Derek would be offered the gig. Perhaps it could be his in the future, only time will tell. Pilot Pete has already begun filming the 2020 season of The Bachelor which is set to premiere in January.
