Why do Jill Duggar and Derek Dillard Use Internet Filtering Software to Track Each Other Online?

The happily married Dillards recently published individual posts on the family’s blog about keeping a marriage ‘joyful’ and ‘exciting’. These posts stirred up a lot of controversy within their audience and have been the center of some interesting online buzz.
While many of the Dillards’ tips were pretty generic – both went into detail about never fulfilling one’s sexual desires solo and making sure to make time for sex as often as possible — ‘3-4 times a week’ as a minimum standard.
Needless to say, the internet community at large had a lot to say about the couple’s interesting take on ‘marriage advice’ and reactions and comments covered the spectrum from agreement to disgust. Just on the heels of Jill Duggar’s article which came out first, Derick’s article reiterated a lot of the same points but also revealed another oddity about the couple’s relationship.
Nothing to hide
According to a recent piece from Cheat Sheet, Derick’s post revealed that he and Jill utilize a religious-based ‘internet filtering’ service called Covenant Eyes . The site creates detailed reports of a user’s web usage and sends the reports to another designated user or ‘ally’.
The software company which charges about $16 a month for their services almost sounds like something parents would use to keep their children from viewing mature content online. In reality, according to the company’s website and promotional content like the video above, Covenant Eyes was actually created to help people combat porn addiction.
No, not kidding. It says so right on the homepage “Reconnect and Find Freedom. Covenant Eyes can help you quit porn for good.”
What is Covenant Eyes?
Cheat Sheet reveals that the account holder can set up web usage parameters and can enable the software to block anything they rate as ‘inappropriate.’ It also sends the report of your usage to your Ally once a week or when you’ve viewed something against the set standards so that the admin can be made aware of your indiscretion.
In addition to the ‘web filtering,’ the Derek also told fans that he and Jill Duggar also have each other’s social media passwords and can access each other’s accounts anytime. The open exchange of information is allegedly meant to keep them ‘pure’ and committed to each other.
Are their Secrets in Jill Duggar’s Marriage?
The average married couple does not rely on paid services to keep them ‘committed’ and accountable. This leaves some to wonder the motivations behind it.
Do Mr. or Mrs. Dillard struggle with an attachment to adult content? Does one or the other have tendencies for caving to temptation online? Has either had an emotional or physical affair with the aide of social media?
For many, this extreme lack of privacy and boundaries suggests that underlying secrets or trust issues might be present within the relationship.
Another theory is that they use the service to help keep their reputation clean. Jill Duggar’s oldest brother, Josh, has had his sexual deviances paraded in the spotlight more than once. It is therefore understandable that the younger children would steer clear from those behaviors.
Is it healthy to be that open?
There are definitely differing opinions out there when it comes to spouses having each other’s social media passwords. Some studies suggest that this practice increases trust within the relationship. A recent study by Comparitech revealed that 17% of women and 28% of men report having more trust for their spouse after the exchange of info.

Despite the possible benefit – it’s important to remember that danger can come with opening up your social media to others. Abuse of social accounts and information is something that this study says is not as uncommon as you would think.
